【摘要】:ThisTechnicalSpecificationdefinesasetofphysicalmarkscalledAddressBlockLocators(ABLs).ABLsaremarks,printedinthevicinityofaddressesonpostalitems,thatareintendedtofacilitateautomaticrecognitionofaddresslocationandprocessingoftheaddressesonmailsortingandvideo-codingequipment.TheTechnicalSpecificationdescribestwofamiliesofABLswhichmaybeprintedonalltypesofpostalitems,includingletters,flatsandparcels.Inthefirstfamily,addressblocklocatorstaketheformofpictogramswhichbearnootherinformationthanbeingalandmarkfortheaddressblock.Onesuchpictogramisdefinedhereinforuseinassociationwiththedeliveryaddressblock.Itmaybeprintedatthesametimeastheaddressorpre-printedonanenvelope,aninsert,oralabel,withtheaddressbeingprinted,onthesamephysicalsupport,atalaterstage.Thesecondfamilycoversaddressblocklocatorswhichcontainanencodedspecificationoftheaddressblocktypeandlocationandwhichcanalsobeusedforencodingotherdata,notdirectlyrelatedtoaddressblocklocation.Suchdatamayincludeaddresseeorpostalitemidentifiers,routingdata,non-deliveryinstructions,areturnaddressandreferencesorotherdatawhicharerelevantforeitherthemailerortheaddressee.ItmayalsoincludeaddresscheckingdatawhichmaybeusedtoverifycorrectinterpretationoftheprintedaddressbytheOCRsystem.Inthisfamily,threetypesofABLaredefined:onebasedonapatternofalphanumericcharacters;oneonalinearbarcodeandonebasedontwo-dimensionalsymbologies.Theselocatorscanbeappliedtothedeliveryaddressblockandtoforwardingorreturnaddressblocks.Theywillnormallybeprintedwithinthesameprocessastheaddressitself.TheTechnicalSpecificationisintendedtobeusedby:?mailers,duringtheproductionofmail;?MLOCRandvideo-codingsystemsmanufacturers,inthedesignoftheirsystems;?postaloperators,inthespecificationofrequirementsformailpresentationandfortheacquisitionofmailprocessingsystems.AdherencetotheTechnicalSpecificationisvoluntary.However:?mailersshouldbeawarethatadoptionofthoseaspectsoftheTechnicalSpecificationwhicharesupportedbytheirpostaloperator(s)shouldresultinfaster,morereliable,processingoftheirpostalitems,particularlywheretheaddressesontheseareprintedon,orsurroundedby,busybackgrounds;?suppliersshouldbeawarethatsupportfortheTechnicalSpecificationshouldenhancetheperformanceoftheirsystems,increasingtheirattractivenesstopostaloperators;?postaloperatorsshouldbeawarethatadoptionoftheTechnicalSpecification,andpromotionofitsusebymailers,shouldresultinfaster,morereliableandmoreefficientprocessingandareductioninvideo-codingvolumes.ThesetofmarksdefinedasABLsinthisTechnicalSpecificationisnotintendedtobeexhaustive.Inparticular,individualpostaloperatorsmaydevelopsystemswhichuseothermarks,includingfacingmarksanddigitalpostagemarks,tofacilitateaddressblocklocation.Wherethisisthecase,itisrecommendedthatsuchothermarksbesupportedinadditionto,ratherthaninsteadof,theABLsdefinedherein.
